Paola Monteiro de Oliveira

PhD student

I did my Bachelor in Biology with an emphasis in Biotechnology at São Paulo State University (Rio Claro/SP, Brazil). I did my Master's in Microbiology at the same University when I worked with bioprocess optimization for the lactic acid production using lactic acid bacteria and agro-industrial waste as a substrate. I'm a third-year Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Tartu, but currently, I’m doing my experimental work at TalTech. My research focused on using nonconventional yeasts to convert wood hemicellulosic hydrolysates into bioproducts, mainly carotenoids, and lipids. I’m also learning and applying metabolic engineering and synthetic biology tools for nonconventional yeasts.
